More than 1,000 feared dead in Philippines

LEGAZPI, Dec. 5 (UPI) — More than 1,000 people are likely to have died in mudslides triggered by a super-typhoon that struck the Philippines last week.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council said 450 are confirmed dead and 599 missing, the Philippine Star reported Tuesday. Many remained buried under the mud and rocks that flowed down the sides of Mount Mayon last Thursday.
Some of the bodies that were uncovered were quickly reburied in mass graves.
President Gloria Arroyo was scheduled to visit the area on Luzon Island about 200 miles from Manila Tuesday.
Antonio Guapo dug a battered photograph album from the remains of his home in the village of Padang, while his daughter, Elizabeth, sat nearby holding a broken coffee pot.
"Look at this place, it's gone," he said. "All that is left are memories."
Guapo was luckier than many of his neighbors. While a 4-year-old granddaughter is missing and probably dead, most of his family is still alive.
Michelle Tolosa returned home to find that her parents, brothers and sisters and many other relatives were dead. The place where her home had stood was occupied by a large boulder.

Hope your family and friends are ok Kiba :(
