Grimm:
"He used a loophole to refuse to forward that command to his division. Not because he was a humanitarian, he feared for the safety and the combat strength of his army. You quickly turn the occupied population against the invaders if you do not treat the correctly. You give the population a reason to fight you, a reason to sabotage you. Also, if your army does not follow those basic rules, why should others follow them if you face them?"

While that commander was no dummy, and while I respect the way he did think, unfortunately, that way of thinking didn't work out too well. And here is why;

Propoganda and the "brainwashing" of said nation's people.

Russia explained to their people that the Germans were sub-human, as did Germany to its people about Russia. The fear that the citizens had was the direct result of their actions.

Many Iraqis were terrified when confronted with American forces. They were led to believe that we would do terrible things to them if caught. Of course, it was lies [for the most part, excluding isolated incidents], but the lie rang as truth in the people's mind, and the lie was the direct result of their actions.

Examples of Nazis rounding up the citizens and making instant mass graves...and examples of USA'a Abu Grahib Prison weirdo actions, are the things that will forever fuel the flames of the lie [propoganda].

This is where you may hear Americans occasionally speak of "winning the hearts and minds of the [Vietnamese/Iraqi] people."

Trying to find some way to overcome the propoganda factor. We are still looking for a solution to this problem. So far, nothing really seems to work.

Don't think little of the commander's intentions in vain though. Not at all. Those are types of decisions in all our lives in which make us men or mice. The man did what he felt was right, even in the face of risk and possible sacrifice [from his C/O - Commanding Officer]. I will always respect that.

CD, Guderian was horrified by that command and he was proven right, when the partisan activity increased and the advancing russian army reached germany. Sadly most of the other commanders did not ignore that order and that led to many atrocities that could have been prevented. (Of course there are always atrocities in warfare, no matter what)

What the US is facing in Iraq is a different kind of problem. The US army is NOT a peacekeeping force, it is a strikeforce. The soldiers are trained to kill. In world war 1 about 20% of the soldiers would actually shoot an enemy, in WW2 the german army raised that to 50% percent with good training. The US army has increased that percentage to 90%. (If I remember correctly) That means, that the standard soldier is very effective at killing people. The standard US soldier has a low threshold to actually kill a person. That is very good when you invade a country, but very bad, when you try to police it. Justifying the invasion with lies does not help either.

Quote from: Full Metal Jacket (1987)Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:
The deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?

It's only a movie... ;)

*edit* Speaking of created wars and games, how does it look when the country supposedly waging a war on terrorists, accept funding from terrorist groups *edit*

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of an advancing German army into Russia, as the circumstance in which the commander would overlook the order to ignore Geneva [Though, I thought Geneva Convention came after WW2?] or similar treaties. This would mean that the German forces, thus the commander's forces, would be on the offensive and in doing so, taking the initiative, forcing the Russians to counter moves in reaction to Germany's moves, instead of the other way around. This situation, in theory anyways, gives the advancing forces a better chance to "set the rules," or the pace, on the battlefield.

By the time the Russkies made it to Germany, the Russians then had the initiative and were just as cruel. Some may say that the Russians would not have been so mean, had the Germans not have been as harsh on the Russians during the initial invasion, but I would personally disagree. I must return to the point of propaganda and its influence on the people and the soldiers.

Well, first off, I must say that in comparison to war tactics, invasions and etc...they are similar when we are talking about the issue of propaganda, fear, "war crimes" type acts, offense, defense, death, life, war, or peace. As are all wars similar subjects.

Second note is I would compare Germany's WW2 army as a strike force and not "peace keeping" force either. The only difference is that Germany was willing to go all the way with their rule over occupied territories.

Germany created "Blitzkrieg" and we refined it to "Hyper War," which does support the percentage numbers.

Take out all of the politics and try to look at just the military view of things and we can see similarities. I mean let's face it, WW2 Germany changed the way of many things. From gas canisters for jeep type trucks [Americans began using them after Germans began] to inter-continental ballistic missiles to advanced aircraft to the race for the A-Bomb! How could there not be similarities [with German tech and WW2 era in general]?

""If you want to study poverty, go to the USA." (Gerhard Schröder, Ex-Chancelor)"

Schroder was a traitor to Germany, in my opinion

There are not too many true statesmen any longer. They are all prostitutes to the globalists. No one gives a damn about their country anymore, not in Western civilization anyways.

Except for maybe Britain. UK seems the only nation who has their own country in mind concerning EU or other international groups. Don't get me wrong, they're in it almost as deep as anyone, but they have made some ground rules. We did have ground rules, though I can't tell where they are anymore.

Russia, China, Japan, perhaps a few more Eastern nations. Yes, I'd include India into this category as well. These countries seem to do what is in interest of their own country, moreso than bending to the will of any international "community."

Down with the international dis-order! Every nation out there...it's a free-for-all, it always has been! It always will be! It is human nature! The rubberband of humanity is being streched, and it will one day will give and snap back, and woe to the generation that this happens too! That is provided the East doesn't come in and cut the rubberband first [they are trying, if you didn't notice].

And to think, we "elected" these people to shape this type of world. It is our faults, for allowing it. An international order is not in your interest, nor in mine.

About Schröder:

You are correct, he is corrupt in my opinion.
He gave Gazprom a huge security for a loan (1 Billion Euro) shortly before he asked for new elections. He lost those elections and got a new job at....

Gazprom, where he now earns at least 250000 Euro per year.

That is corruption at its best, if you ask me. There was not even a cover-up. It was in plain sight and he got away with it.

About Rumsfeld:

If he was not involved in the case, he most likely will get off without a conviction. If the prosecutor does not drop the case, before it reaches court.

Creeping_Death

It is not a point of if he will ever reach a German court. It's ythe point that this asshole lawayer and judge have the nerve to even try.

This is close to an act of war in my opinion.

I remember someone speaking about that a little while back. You see, European or American, they are all the same anymore, in the end...greedy self-serving bastards. In the old days these folks would meet their deaths at the end of a rope or lined against a wall. With TV, radio, internet, and other means, propoganda is at an all-time high throughout the world. This has desensitized the people by corrupting moral unity [such as Church, family unit, neighbor community], causing folks to lose their standard of principals, or at least errode them significantly. This is in part reason why corrupt politicians walk free.

It certainly does not have to be this way. Hard to say the solution though.
