Has anyone heard anything about the 3D space-strategy game O.R.B?
I just stumbled across the game yesterday. Its out in the US already but will be published in Germany much later (march 03 or something).
Never heard of it before - but the demo looks interesting-

Ya i got the game in states about a week ago; its just like homeworld if you ever played it?  U don't pilot ships like you do in Alleg, more controlled units (ie typical strat game) Pretty good I'd rate it an 8 out of 10. :)

I loved HW...
Got the O.R.B Demo now - but can't play it on my computer (to old .. P3 500 :shit:) - so I depend on my girlfriends copmputer for that (and she seems to be working on it whenever I try to play the O.R.B demo)

Or even worse - the question arises "me or the computer honey..."

Have you seen Imperium Galactica III demo?
It completely knocked me out of my chair.
It was like this...
I got the demo and it had 2 modes, auto played battle and player controled one.
So I ran the auto played demo first and what I saw was basically a Homeworld type game (with a promise of strategic element besides the obvious tactical) with incredibly awesome 3D graphics, surpassing Homeworld by far. As the demo run itself, I sighed knowing that my poor old Celeron@833 and GF2MX400 will die horrible death when I actually try playing it myself (rendering in real time).
So I tried and I almost fell of my chair when I saw the damn thing looks exactly like the auto played demo and runs exactly as smooth as the demo!
In other words, the auto played demo was rendered in real time by my poor PC!
Whoa, that's all I can say.
The battle itself was a bit longish, with BIG spacecrafts shooting all kinds of things at each other, but what I am looking forward to is the added strategic element.
So keep an eye out for that one ;)

I actually stumbled across O.R.B. while lurking in the IG3 Forum...
(I am realy looking forward to IG3 - but will have to buy a new comp for that...)
I played IG2 and still think it is a nice game... (though the space battle sucked the idea of having surface units that the fleets need to land before conquering a planet etc. was pretty good)
IG3 is supposed to have no surface combat but free shipdesign etc. (and the designs/ turrets etc. can actually be seen on the in-game ships)

My probs:
1. couldn't run the demo (I do have a nice trailer though)
2. they postponed the game till March next year... (due to the merger of some Hungarian software companies)
3. the original makers of the IG series are now on the Haegemonia project (which seems to be crap)- so the strategic part of IG3 remains yet to be seen (it sounds a bit to much like scripted missions cobbeld together as a "campaign")

I'll check IG3 when its out; Hey Tel - girlfriends and computers don't mix too well I know; the nice thing about computers is they will never leave you (haha).

"EVE online" is the game I'm waiting on, due out this Feb by some Finnish company, CCP Games.  Eve is supposed to be another "massively multiplayer role-playing" sim - It could be the game Alleg was meant to be; but it's unclear to me what the combat system will be - piloted ships, or AI controlled units (?). Also its unclear if it will be more the role-playing aspect or space combat oriented.

But OMG does Eve look really dark and spooky! Lots of GF4 special light & halo smoke effects, red-green-blue galaxies floating in the distance like wisps of smoke, cluster of stars, and near realsize planets. So far it looks to give a deeper sense of "infinite space" than does the dated graphic engine of Alleg.  But whether it will have the furious combat system, equal to Alleg, who knows?

Hy guys

There are currently some interesting games:

Hegemonia (made by the guys that made Imperium Galactica I and II). It´s also very much like Imperium Galactica I and II , since it´s from the same programmers.

Imperium Galactica III (the guys that made part I and II sold part II to someone else). But the game looks awesome , too! I played Imperium Gal. I and II , both were veeeeeeeery good.

ORB ... well yeah. Uhm ... i played Homeworld and Homeworld Cataclysm (the extension). ORB is ... a clone ... but nice.

Imperium Galactica III ist a killer !!!!!! I also recommend that you take a look at Hegemonia , if you liked IG I and II , you ´ll sure love Hegemonia.

I am still waiting for my DSL :((
*sigh* hopefully i will get it before Xmas ...
