Hi folks, hope you are all doing ok. Not too much happening this
week, but I still have a few items of interest.
FZ is still down (of course).. there were the usual "it's down for
good" rumors for a bit, but those were based mainly on the statements
of a couple of clueless MS tech support drones so there ya go..We'll
let you know when it's back up. Meanwhile we have both HomeLAN
servers running on SOVRoute along with the ever-busy FBI, plus a
couple of others including BW's custom-map server.
SOVRoute on NT
==============
Some people are unable to get SOVRoute running on NT based OSes (NT,
2000, XP) - no servers will show up when they hit LAN Games. VenCain
has a few suggestions on the SOVRoute download page, but there's one
issue that's missing there: the culprit could be your network card
(or lack of it)
On my machine, and based on reports at least on another two, a
disabled network card or network card will stop LAN servers from
being seen in Alleg. Since SOVRoute uses the same principle, it won't
work either. So if you have this problem and a network card around,
try installing it (with TCP/IP) or if you have it disabled, try
enabling it.
New stuff on MA
===============
YP has posted a bunch of new stuff. First, there's a wealth of
skinning info under Resources and new skins for ships have been put
up under its own section. Next, the "Tech Specs" under Resources has
been updated with a new and complete weapon vs armor damage table,
and a missile ranges vs launch velocity table. The information inside
has also been updated to reflect the changes of the latest patch.
The Files section has been cleaned up - There are two additions: an
alternative quickchat menu which is similar to Y2Pro but with a more
task-oriented layout, and a replacement newgamescreen.mdl file which
gives you more options when setting up games (money settings etc.)
Bits and pieces
===============
Since I haven't mentioned this before, note that there's a working
link to download Allegiance, the whole thing, at
http://allegiance.crankytech.com. Bandwidth may be limited and I
think it's only up during daytime... Another boo-boo in the 1.25
patch: Lancer 2-3 bug isn't fixed, and giga lux int scan range is
increased only 20%... If your name is mostly made up of special (high-
ASCII) characters, note that SovLOG will strip those away, and people
won't be able to decipher your name. Took me a while the other day to
figure out who the hell a certain "l823" was
... YP will put up a
server to test his new "advanced core" which allow distinct skins for
ships that normally share the same skin and the new SOC tech tree.

send them my way. See you next time!
