Just think:

Oklahoma has the highest incarceration rate out of all the 50 states. The US is highest incarceration rate in the world.

Probably 80% or higher. Which, by the way, smoking a joint is not un-constitutional, it is not infringing on another person's rights, technically speaking.

This website showing only 20% for drugs...is a lie. It is not true. Drug offenses commonly out number violent crimes.

Violent crimes, property crimes, are constitutional violations. Drugs is not.

For example: Oklahoma has a cultivation law. If a person is caught cultivating pot, it is a mandatory life sentance [life sentance = 25 years]. Cultivation in Oklahoma is anything over 99 plants.

20% does seem low, however these are probably direct drug charges (cultivation, posession ect)
How many of the rest of the crime % is due to drug activities, I'm sure you would agree that % would be alot higher.

Pot isnt the problem, it would be the crack,PCP,meth, heroin, that sould be the main concern IMO. (especialy meth)

And Jimbo, we are just getting to the driver drug testing point now,(here in Canada)  as soon as they find a way to acuratly testing someone for drugs they will.

COW:

"Pot isnt the problem, it would be the crack,PCP,meth, heroin, that sould be the main concern IMO. (especialy meth)"

I do agree with this. But let us look at why. The "why" problem is for the fact that these harder drugs often cause violent or criminal behvior, thus, breaking other citizan's constitutional rights. It is not neccissarily the drug itself, it's the behvior patterns that result in humans once taken.

Smoking a joint or smoking a crack pipe are not neccissarily infringing upon anyone else's civil liberties. The "war on drugs" is nothing more than a war on its own citizens, the pretext is drugs.

But, I do agree with you. These harder drugs are a problem. Ultimatley, the person must be responsible for their own actions, no matter their reasoning.

A difficult subject.

My main point is that most of these arrests/offenses should not be. They are not harming anyone other than themselves. When it goes a step further, when those begin to harm others, then that is the true offense.

This also steps into the moral delima as well. If a society had a moral foundation, these things are less likely to happen.

I agree somewhat, however lets look at the other side of the coin....Like Canada for exampe.
Here we are unarmed (mostly) so no one (mostly) can defend themselfs.
Those who do kill and rape only get 20 yrs MAX (and they can ask for relese after 30% of that time) sad eh.
Drug growers/dealers get a fine (ususaly less than $2000 chump change for a grow/dealer) and then they are back on the streets (free to kill/rape, grow/sell) with basicaly little consequences.

personaly I would rather put them away for a while.

Oh and when your in jail here you get PAID (yes PAID) can vote, have access to all media, white collar crimes get medium security time with a golf course FFS....and get out early for good behavior on top of that.

You are not considered an adult untill 18 so you are protected (as a minor) from "adult" laws untill then.
So murder and rape before your 18 and you'll be out by the time your 25 or so....REALLY sad...

So what is better? incarsarate your criminals or let them off easy?...we are learning that the later isn't so good..

We are just getting around to cleaning this up a little.
