What is this about?

Its about a game called GATE 88. Freeware.
You play deathmatch on internet-servers.
you can play alone with bots, too.
you have to build a base in space.
then you fly and destroy the others guys garrison.
you are alone.

How do i win?

Whore the other guys into submission until time is up.
Kill thier garrison. Do it again. And again. And again.
Protect yours.

how old is it?

I dunno really but it looks like its from 1988.

Why?

Well, it looks like asteroids to be precise, but you have to build a base to fight the enemy, which is human, and you fly your ship to shoot the other guys bombes and fighters. Sadly, you are the only one fighting for your cause, with the exception that you can allie with other players.

Where can i get it?

HERE

For different OS even.

Pics?

Yes.

It looks.... Like someone painted a picture while doing 5 different drugs.

Play Alleg and your eyes will live to see another day.

Alto Trek (Allegiance 79) by Rick Rashid:

Quote from: "IGN"
Some of you may have heard of Rick Rashid. You know, my boss, the inventor of the Mach kernel, the Vice President in charge of MS Research worldwide, co-designer and developer for Alto-Trek, probably the first network game. Never heard of Alto-Trek, you say? Well...

Twenty years ago, Rick Rashid and Gene Ball (while at the University of Rochester) developed a game for the experimental Xerox Parc Alto and its experimental network code: Ethernet. The game started to garner quite a following and formed the basis for what later became NetTrek, a cult classic.

You are not supposed to help me in anyway.  This game is actually called "gate 88" and the thread title was made up by me to catch your attention.

The main point of playing this game is, that you can have a few quick kills in seconds, play for 5 minutes and quit. Its an arcade game.

And Pkk, that comparison is quite incorrect. Gate 88 can be fun for a few minutes or hours while that old thing hasnt even colours. ;)

I did not mean to offend you, Andreas.

pkk brought up nettrek, because it really IS the grandfather of Alleg. Nettrek was written by Rick Rashid. Check the credits of Alleg, you will find exactly the same name. :)

you sure are a cocky one arent you andre.....

I think it is cool, that Allegiance-theme was thought up
so long ago, and yet, it still exsits today.

Maybe only games like soccer or football, have
lasted as long.

Andreask, you are already inactive for over 30 days shown on the squadlist.

You are not playing Allegiance anymore?

Pardon me, but i neither have the machine nor the time at the moment. I dont play gate 88 too. in fact i deleted it again, because it was really only good for five minutes of fun.

i ll play some alleg when i have more time to spare.
but i can always post on these forums to make sure you dont forget me.
